Increasingly, Hybrid cannabis strains are taking over the hearts and minds of consumers. They’reso named because Hybrid strains are produced by crossbreeding both Indica and Sativa parent strains (or other Hybrids). Hybrids are typically classified as Indica-dominant (IH), Sativa-dominant (SH) or balanced (H). The resulting strains are extremely varied in taste, color, structure and effects. Generally speaking, Hybrids will “smooth out” the potentially extreme aspects of their purebred parents; if Indicas offer heavy relaxation and Sativas energize consumers, Hybrids will tend to fall somewhere in between.
One of the main benefits of Hybrids is that their variety and careful breeding means there’s a massively broad spectrum of strains to choose from with very specifically selected properties. This plays a major role in their popularity. For example, if you’re looking for a strain that will stimulate your mind while also relaxing your body, Hybrids would be a great place to start. Likewise, if you enjoy the stimulating effects of Sativas but find they can be a bit overwhelming or induce anxiety, then a slightly toned down Sativa Hybrid might do the trick!
For medical applications, the same holds true. With careful research and a little experimentation, patients may be able to find a few select Hybrids that will treat many of their symptoms but offset some of the less desirable side effects. Hybrid strains may be selected to help ease pain, cramps, inflammation, insomnia, mental fog or PTSD.
However, because many diseases bring with them side effects like depression and insomnia, consumers should consider treating both their core disease and its recurring symptoms. Ultimately, each consumer should begin by exploring the effects of multiple strains from within each variety of Sativa, Indica and Hybrid.
